ubisoft delays new ghost recon battle royale game after community backlash

Ubisoft has delayed the first test of its latest Ghost Recon game. Just a few weeks after its reveal, the closed technical test for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Frontline has been delayed indefinitely, Ubisoft announced on Wednesday.

Ubisoft’s announcement of the delay was extremely vague, offering no reason other than that a delay was the best choice and that the “development team is dedicated to creating the best experience possible.”

That said, the decision doesn’t come as much of a surprise given fans’ negative response to the game’s announcement. Ghost Recon Frontline is a 100-player, free-to-play shooter that takes inspiration from the battle royale genre. In other words, the game is a far cry from the slow-paced, tactical, squad-based action that the Ghost Recon series is known for.

On the Ghost Recon subreddit and in YouTube comment sections, fans expressed their disappointment at the direction Ubisoft was taking with the series. Despite fans’ dissatisfaction, there’s still no indication from Ubisoft as to whether or not the the game will change directions. Polygon has reached out to Ubisoft for further details.

For now, the future of Ghost Recon Frontline remains uncertain. According to Ubisoft’s announcement, the developer will share the new date for the closed test when it has one.
